White fillings

If you are thinking about having white fillings or tooth decay has left you needing fillings, think about asking for cosmetic fillings. Cosmetic dental fillings are completely metal free and are coloured to suit your other teeth so that no-one else will be able to tell they’re there. Please ask for any information regarding this treatment, with your dentist or hygienist and they will be happy to offer further guidance.

Porcelain Veneers

A veneer is a thin layer of tooth-coloured material that is put onto the front of the tooth to make it look better. This is done because the tooth might have been damaged by decay or an accident, or might be badly discoloured for some reason.

Dentures

Dentures are a removable prosthesis used to replace one or more missing teeth. They can be made of acrylic or metal. They can be used to restore aesthetics, function and the bite and prevent movement of teeth.

Acrylic dentures are relatively easier to make but their use is limited as they can often cause damage to the gum and teeth. Metal based dentures are more complex to construct but are more stable, retentive and comfortable to wear.

Crowns

Crowns are used to restore and improve the aesthetics and function of teeth that are heavily filled or broken down. Aesthetic crowns are used in areas of the mouth where appearance is important. They are made of porcelain or porcelain firmly bonded on to a precious metal substructure. A crown can strengthen your teeth when fillings become too large to stay in place. Used correctly crowns can improve your smile, strengthen weak teeth, restore your ability to chew in some areas. They are also used on back teeth after root treatments to reinforce the tooth.

Bridges

A bridge is a fixed replacement for a missing tooth or teeth. It’s made by taking an impression of the surrounding teeth, which will eventually support the bridge. A bridge is usually created from precious metal and porcelain and will be fixed in your mouth (unlike dentures, which can be removed).

A bridge is a fixed permanent replacement for one or more missing teeth. The existing teeth adjacent to the gap are used to fix the bridge into place. A bridge can restore aesthetics, function and the bite. A bridge can be made from a variety of materials; gold, precious metal, porcelain or a combination of porcelain and metal. The dentist will advise on the best material choice.
